We all know the dangers of driving with a mobile phone, and an iPhone is even more dangerous as you can’t type without looking at the screen etc.

Anyway it was time to invest in a proper hands-free kit, but I wanted to keep the jukebox functionality that I had become used to with my old iTrip.

On the 21st of May 2009 I got an ACL reconstruction operation on my left knee at the Whitfield Clinic (Waterford, Ireland) which was ably performed by leading sports injury surgeon Tadhg O’Sullivan. In this post I’m going to take you through my experience and hopefully help others with their operations.

I was off work for a week after getting my knee operation (ACL Reconstruction).

That finally gave me a chance to tune up my Dell XPS M1330 which is running on Vista Home Premium. My notebook is packed full of great hardware but I’ve struggled with Vista from the start, its not a great OS and will be very shortlived with Windows 7 around the corner. So I’ve put together my top 5 ways to improve Vista’s performance and make it a more acceptable OS to work with. Its actually working really well now for me.

I bought a brand new 23″ Samsung 2333SW LCD display from dabs4work.ie last week and it only cost me €165 ex VAT (€200 incl). It runs at a max resolution of 1920 x 1080 which is full HD to the informed buyer and offers the basic DVI and VGA connections.

There was one big problem when I plugged in my “Pavillion dv9000t” laptop with “Nvidia Geforce 7600 Go” graphics card over a standard VGA cable…the bloody computer wouldn’t display the max resolution! All I could get was a distorted looking 1680 x 1050 resolution with everything looking stretched and faded.

I injured my cruciate ligament in May 2007 playing soccer on an astro-turf pitch while chasing after a ball and stopping suddenly. I’ve not played hurling competitively since October 2006, apart from 1hr and 30 mins at intermediate level in 2008.

The problem with an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury is that the knee becomes unstable. So despite my best efforts to become fit and build the strength of my quad and hamstring muscles around the joint, alas the knee just buckles under a sudden change of direction. Continue reading »

Having purchased James Caan’s audiobook on iTunes I came accross a review for Warren Buffett’s biography and decided to take a punt on it. I had absolutely zero prior knowledge about Buffett, apart from that I knew he was the wealthiest individual on the earth. Continue reading »

I enjoyed this movie, Zac Effron shines out as an excellent actor with massive potential for future roles. Matthew Perry was poorly cast I felt, and he’s a limited actor compared with Effron. Thomas Lennon played an excellent role throughout as the nerdy millionaire, while Leslie Mann adequately played the same role as she did in Knocked Up, Michelle Trachtenberg showed a quirky charm as the atypical tear-away teenage daughter. The Real Deal: My Story from Brick Lane to Dragons’ Den

I listened to this Audio Book over a 2 week period without any real previous knowledge of James Caan, other than a few episodes of Dragon’s Den. My expectation was positive from a few reviews I had read prior to purchase, the other Dragon’s books were apparently more prescriptive and less biographical. I also like James Caan from his cameo appearances in Dragon’s Den, he comes across as gentle and measured. He also seems to have lots of cash and he’s willing to spend it, unlike Deborha Meaden for example. Continue reading »

I attended the Ireland vs Bulgaria WC qualifier at Croke Park on Saturday 28th March 2009. The team underperformed after a dream start and showed very little energy or appetite until conceding an equaliser in the final quarter of the game. A highlight was John O’Shea’s excellent performance and he’s having the best season of his career this year. Continue reading »
